We test every one of our gemstones for identity and treatments. Also, we test the purity of all metals. We use a combination of microscopes, light filters, UV lights, spectrophotometer, refractive index, polariscope, thermal conduction, and other tests as needed until we are certain of each gemstone's species, source (natural or lab), and its unusual properties e. We use many tests to identify gemstone treatments. Yet, some treatment methods are difficult to identify.
We report to you what we find. If you send one of our gemstones to a major USA certifying laboratory e.
When our listing states NATURAL, we mean that the gem was mined from the ground. Natural gemstones sometimes have some character (some call them flaws). Often, such character is an integral part of their unique beauty and lets you know that they are genuinely natural, extremely rare gemstones. Natural gemstones are rarely completely flawless - especially untreated natural gemstones.
Sometimes, this character is visible to the unaided eye or, sometimes, it requires magnification. How wonderful that your gemstone formed millions of years ago and sat in the ground waiting to be unearthed just for you!
Sometimes, it is extraordinarily difficult to take realistic photos of gems and jewelry because our eyes see gemstones differently than do cameras. For one thing, cameras tend to take photos that amplify flaws beyond what can be seen with the unaided eye. For some gems, cameras are not able to portray all properties as they appear to the eye e. Cats-eye, star, color tones, iridescence, flaws, and fire. Hence, we show many photos and include detailed written descriptions.
Also, your monitor may portray items differently than ours does because of settings/models/etc. (especially for color tones, color saturation and brightness). Measurements are in millimeters (mm) and weights are in carats (ct), unless otherwise stated. Please allow up to a 10% variance in measurements for human or instrumentation error. The photos show items highly magnified so that you can see close-up details.
Therefore, almost every item listed has at least one photo of the item next to a ruler showing mm. Please utilize this photo and the stated dimensions and weights to understand actual sizes. Note: There are 25.4 mm in 1 inch.
If an item has no photo with a ruler and you need one, please ask. Our descriptions are based on our best opinion with the item held about 18 from the eyes without magnification. Everyone sees colors and other characteristics in their own way, so your view may be a little different than ours. Remember, if you want more information, just ask! Let us have a conversation to resolve any problems before filing a complaint.
