Royal Doulton Old Charley D6761 Rare Colourway Ltd Ed 98/250. With rare, black hat, maroon coat, green polka-dot bow tie.

One of only 250 produced. "Ten o'clock and all's well" was the familiar call of the Charlies. The Charlies were watchmen who originated during the reign of Charles II.

With a history of almost 200 years, they were replaced in the 1800s with what we now would regard as the Police force. Designed by Charles Noke and specially commissioned by The Higbee Company to commemorate the Second Anniversary of the opening of the First Royal Doulton Room, Cleveland USA. Commissioned in 1985, issued in 1986 in a limited edition of only 250 pieces, this is number 98. Large Character Jug, 5 1/2 in. Excellent condition, no damage or repairs.
